According to NCP leader Sharad Pawar, the Congress suddenly recalls its status as a national party while engaging with other parties. This mentality was on display during the creation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition.
Pawar charged Congress leaders for being obstinate during negotiations to establish the MVA administration in a modified edition of his Marathi autobiography, “Lok Majhe Sangati” (People Accompany Me), which highlights on events after 2015.
Shiv Sena’s disagreement with the BJP after the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections gave rise to the unusual coalition of the Congress, NCP, and Sena.
“The opposition is clearly united around Congress. But it realises its national strength all of a sudden when it comes to making amends with other parties and giving them importance. This is what I’ve seen,” Pawar wrote in the book, which was published here on Tuesday.
Later, he called attention to the Congress’ “arrogant attitude” in an interview, comparing the Grand Old Party to a landowner who has lost his estates and is unable to maintain his palace but continues to talk about its glories.
Pawar noted that the Congress’s behaviour during the negotiations, which ultimately resulted in the establishment of the MVA, tried his patience to the point where he thought the negotiations were unable to go on.
The NCP leader also said that the Congress had entered the 2019 Assembly elections with a “defeatist” mindset, but that their strong campaign had helped the party’s tally marginally rise.
