A truck struck an Indian student in London, taking her life. The event happened a week ago. The dead have been identified as London School of Economics PhD student Cheistha Kochhar, 33.
Amitabh Kant, the former CEO of NITI Aayog, announced Kochar’s passing on X, formerly Twitter.
“Cheistha Kochar and I collaborated on the @NITIAayog #LIFE programme. She had gone to the LSE to complete her Ph.D. in behavioural science while working in the #Nudge unit. died while riding in a horrible traffic accident in London. She was always vibrant, intelligent, bold, and full of life. passed away too soon. RIP,” murmured he.
On March 19, Cheistha Kochar was riding her bike home when a garbage truck struck her. She was transported to the hospital by her husband, Prashant, who was riding ahead of her at the time of the collision. It was not possible to save her.
Her father, retired Lieutenant General Dr. SP Kochhar, paid tribute to his daughter on LinkedIn with a heartfelt post.
“I’m still in London, attempting to gather my daughter Cheistha Kochhar’s remains. On March 19, while cycling back from LSE, where she was doing her PhD, she was struck by a lorry. It has crushed her wide social network and us,” he posted on X.
Cheistha Kochchar lived in Gurugram, Haryana, until relocating to London in September 2023. She had finished her coursework at Ashoka University, Delhi University, the Universities of Pennsylvania, and Chicago before being accepted into LSE.
