Praveen Chithravel, Abdulla Aboobacker, and Eldhose Paul of the Inspire Institute of Sport’s Triple Jump team brought Day 3 of the 62nd National Interstate Senior Athletics Championship to a successful conclusion by securing qualifying for the Asian Games 2023 later in the year.
The fact that Praveen Chithravel, the current holder of the national record for the triple leap, continued to consistently clear the 17-meter barrier after the Indian Open Throws and Jumps competition held at the Inspire Institute of Sport in March, was intriguing to see. Chithravel just recovered from an injury, but he showed no signs of slowing down as he comfortably outjumped the Asian Games qualifying record of 16.60 meters to take gold with a jump of 17.07. Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker, two of his IIS colleagues, settled for bronze with best jumps of 16.75 meters and 16.88 meters, respectively. Chithravel commented about his attitude for the inter-state competition and stated, “I was coming off of an injury; therefore, my objective was to qualify safely for the Asian Games. Therefore, I didn’t push myself too hard.” Chithravel had previously qualified for the World Championships with a 17.37-meter jump in Havana. Additionally, I have to continue my winning streak during a season that is jam-packed with tournaments. I appreciate the coach and the whole squad for encouraging me to persevere.
In addition, he discussed his debut at the Diamond League, adding, “I spoke to Coach Betanzos and he is confident that we will receive an admission into the Monaco Diamond League to be held on July 21, 2023, due to the string of results we have put together. A prospective appearance later in the month excites me.
Additionally, he mentioned the ache he had been experiencing ever since his jump in Cuba and emphasized how nicely his recuperation was progressing. Chithravel said, “I had a quadricep stretch last month and have been recovering ever since. I’m happy to say that I feel physically fit and ready for the next tournaments
