The National Games 2023 will be opened by the nation’s honorable prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on October 25 in Goa, the state’s sports minister Govind Gaude said to the legislature on Friday.
The PM will begin the multidisciplinary event on October 25, and it will conclude on November 9.
According to Gaude, the National Games’ hosting would strengthen the state’s athletic culture.
Every Goan has a desire of seeing their home state host the National Games, and the coastal state has been working to make that goal a reality since 2012, he added.
The minister said, “By hosting the National Games, our goal is to promote various sports in the state.”
According to Gaude, the government encourages Goan athletes to compete not just for the state but also for India in international competitions.
The Goa state government had already pledged that award money for medal winners from the Games will be distributed before the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday, which would be observed after mid-September, the sports minister reassured the House.
According to him, the state government would award sports organisations Rs 2.54 crore and distribute an additional Rs 73 lakh in cash rewards to medal winners.
According to Gaude, the government is open to allowing local clubs, organisations, and village panchayats to retain sports fields in their particular communities.
The minister insisted that the state government had complied with its promise to fund sports organisations. He said that certain organisations were not receiving funding because they had neglected to submit money use certifications.
The minister also said that a board would soon be established by the government to direct the execution of the state’s youth strategy.
