If the INDIA coalition wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress Working Committee member Shashi Tharoor believes the party might select either Mallikarjun Kharge or former AICC president Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister.
Due to the existence of an opposition alliance, Tharoor predicted that the election results might be unexpected. He said there was a possibility the INDIA coalition may take over the government at the national level and perhaps beat the BJP-led NDA in the 2018 general elections.
“So we’ll have to wait and see,” he remarked in conversation with employees of the US-based, Silicon Valley-incubated Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) marketplace Way.com on Monday after the company opened an office in this city’s Technopark.
In response to a question on what would happen after the election, he said, “I believe that after the outcome is out, then since it’s a coalition and not just one party, the leaders of those parties will have to get together and choose someone. But given that the Congress Party is, in many respects, a family-run party, I predict that it will either be Mr. Kharge, who would then become India’s first Dalit prime minister, or Rahul Gandhi.
Former union minister Tharoor said that the Prime Minister is the first among equals and that he is capable of handling whatever tasks that are entrusted to him.
