A 33-year-old man in Mumbai’s employment search took a turn for the worst after being conned out of Rs 3.42 lakh by con artists. The con artists claimed to be from Amazon, a well-known online retailer, and its human resources division. The Mumbai Police has filed a case against unnamed online scammers. The job seeker, who works for a firm with an Andheri location, was searching for some part-time internet employment, according to the report. On April 3, he stumbled onto a Facebook job posting for an Amazon position.
The complainant obtained a woman’s Whatsapp number after clicking the link. She introduced herself as Marry and identified herself as an Amazon recruiting manager.
The recruiting manager provided the individual a link after he expressed interest in looking for job and requested him to register before beginning his chores. First, the complainant got a bonus of Rs 80.
The guy quickly finished one work after another, such as making recharges, purchasing goods, etc., since he trusted the management. He saw money being placed into his e-wallet and kept acting in accordance with the con artists’ instructions.
The complainant’s e-wallet included Rs 2.4 lakh in purchases and Rs 5.13 lakh in earnings after a few days. The individual attempted to transfer the money to his bank account but was informed that his request had been turned down.
Marry responded to the complainant’s inquiry concerning the process for cash withdrawal by informing him that a 20% tax would be required in order to get his profits. The father mortgaged his family’s wealth in order to pay the tax (Rs. 1.02 lakh).
After that, his account was cancelled when he attempted to transfer money from the e-wallet to his bank account. Realizing he had been defrauded of Rs. 3.42 lakh, the guy.
The job seeker first reported the incident to the Diva police station. The first information report (FIR) was sent to the MIDC police station for inquiry since he was tricked there. The issue is being investigated.
The recent revelation of an employment fraud in Maharashtra is not the first of its kind. An unnamed lady was reportedly arrested by police at Thane’s Vartak Nagar police station for allegedly defrauding a doctor and his brother of Rs 23 lakh in exchange for employment in different government agencies.
