Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP’s formal campaign for the 2018 Lok Sabha elections will be officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow at a large gathering of over two lakh women in Thrissur.
The Kerala chapter of the BJP is organizing a convention called ‘Sthree Shakthi Modikk Oppam’ (Empower Women with PM Modi) to celebrate PM Modi on his successful passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in both Houses of Parliament. The convention will take place at the expansive Thekkinkadu venue.
It is anticipated that women from a variety of backgrounds will take part in the event, including social and cultural activists, ASHA employees, entrepreneurs, artists, MGNREGA and neighborhood network workers, and Anganwadi instructors.
Even though the event is billed as a large-scale gathering of women, it is believed to be the formal beginning of the BJP’s poll campaign for the 2018 general elections, which it is using to gain political traction in Kerala, which is now controlled by the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP state leadership has made it plain that more national figures would go to the southern state and engage with the populace in the coming months.
The fact that Thrissur was chosen as the location of the large gathering also has importance since it is one of the seats where the saffron party is hoping for strong results in the next elections.
Women from all walks of life, including well-known figures who have achieved success in a variety of disciplines, are expected to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Thrissur, according to BJP state leader K Surendran.
“Actress-danseuse Shobhana, cricketer Minnu Mani, entrepreneur Beena Kannan, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Mariyakutty, who raised her voice against corruption and red tape, will be among those who will share the venue with the PM,” Surendran said to reporters in Thrissur.
As part of the program, a variety of Keralan ladies will come together in Thrissur, he said, adding that there is no doubt that it would turn into a historic occasion.
Surendran went on to say that the state will soon see a political downturn for both the opposition UDF and the governing LDF.
