In the context of the India-Canada dispute, Anil Trigunayat, a former diplomat, articulated that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau bears responsibility for the deteriorating relations between the two nations.
Trigunayat asserted that Trudeau has fostered and catered to the anti-India extremists, terrorists, and separatist factions.
In a conversation with ANI, he remarked, “It appears that the relationship between India and Canada has reached a nadir, and the responsibility for this situation rests squarely on the shoulders of the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. He has seemingly made a concerted effort to engage with and appease anti-India extremists, terrorists, and separatist factions, offering them support while simultaneously levying unfounded accusations against India regarding the death of a terrorist named Nijjar. To date, no evidence has been presented to substantiate these claims.”
Bhaswati Mukherjee, a former IFS officer and President of the India Habitat Centre remarked that Canada’s statement is highly provocative.
She remarked, “The incisive declaration from the Canadian side was profoundly provocative.” It was stated that our high commissioner to Canada serves as the representative of the President of India in Canada and is considered a suspect in our murder assassination case. This suggests a disregard for Indian conventions and a lack of indication regarding the assurance of his safety,” he remarked.
Mukherjee elaborated that India responded decisively, asserting its status as an independent sovereign nation.
“Given that we are not a banana republic but rather a proud, democratic, independent, and sovereign nation, our response was vigorous, as no country in the world, barring a banana republic, would have acted differently,” she stated.
India and Canada are currently navigating an extraordinary diplomatic crisis following allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that suggest that agents of the Indian government played a role in the assassination of Najjar on Canadian soil. India has dismissed Canada’s allegations as “absurd” and “politically motivated.”
