In two separate traffic incidents in Pakistan’s Punjab province, at least 15 people—including women and children—were murdered, according to police on Tuesday. Eight members of a nomad family, including women and children, were murdered on Monday when a speeding oil tanker ploughed over their huts in the Lodhran area, around 350 km from Lahore, according to the NGO “Rescue 1122.”
According to the charity, a large number of nomad families were sound sleeping inside their huts when a speeding oil tanker crashed into them, instantly killing eight people and injuring four more. According to “Rescue 1122,” the tanker’s driver lost control of the truck when one of the tyres ruptured. Although the driver was able to escape, a case has been opened against him.
In a another incident, a bus struck a vehicle in Okara, around 130 km from Lahore, killing seven family members. According to “Rescue 1122,” a bus headed for Lahore struck a vehicle in Okara while attempting to avoid hitting an auto-rickshaw.
All of the prisoners, including Muhammad Sajid, his wife, his two young children, his mother, and his two nephews, died at the scene due to the accident’s severity. The bus driver has been taken into custody.
