According to those with knowledge of the situation, Chirag Paswan, the union minister of food processing industries, has been assigned Z-category security cover inside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Officials with knowledge of the situation confirmed that Paswan was given the CRPF cover on October 10 but did not elaborate on the rationale behind the enhanced security detail.
On October 10, directives were issued to furnish the minister with Z-category coverage. SSB had previously taken care of his security. The second-highest security category, Z, was not the security category. The cause of this development is unknown to us. Following a threat perception assessment by central agencies, security cover is assigned. According to an official, it is examined once every six months.
There are several security levels, including X, Y, Y+, Z, and Z+. For ministers, the security category could range from Y to Z +.
The greatest level of protection is Z Plus, which includes commandos at the mansion, escort cars, an ambulance in the convoy, and at least forty armed people on duty around the clock. Former prime ministers, Home Minister Amit Shah, and well-known opposition figures like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are among those who have Z and Z plus security from the CRPF.
Under category Z security protection, there would be at least 36 CRPF-trained commandos present along with an escort vehicle. With about ten commandos stationed at the residence, trained commandos will watch over the protectee around the clock in batches of ten to twelve in various shifts.
Rajiv Kumar, the chief election commissioner, was also granted CRPF’s Z category protection last year as a result of separatist threats.
