A four-lane newly constructed Cantilever bridge was thrown open to the public in Mumbai’s Versova on Monday. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, recently announced the bridge over Versova Creek had been officially opened.
The 918-meter-long balanced cantilever bridge across Varsova creek comprises of four lanes, which would bring major traffic relief to the Mumbai-Surat corridor, Gadkari added.
The balanced cantilever bridge is 917.875 meters long, and both approaches are 1.33 kilometers long, making the total length. The Thane MP Rajan Vichare recently went to the bridge’s construction site to check on its progress. The project began on the Surat side of NH 8 with a total length of 2.25 kilometers.
Today, there are two bridges on each side of the Versova bridge at Ghodbunder on National Highway 8, a report claimed. Out of the two, the one downstream was in poor shape and underwent renovation in 2013–2014. It was made available to the general public with a 15-ton load limit.
