A rowdy crowd set fire to at least 30 homes and businesses on Wednesday in the unrest-ridden Moreh region of Manipur. Later, according to the authorities, the mob also started a gunfight with the security personnel.The abandoned homes were in the Moreh Bazar neighborhood near the Myanmar border, according to media sources.
Officials claim that after the arson, the security forces intervened to disperse the crowd, and a gunfight ensued between the assailants and the security forces.
Two security force buses used to carry employees were burned by a crowd in the Kangpokpi neighborhood the day before. There were no casualties reported.
According to reports, the people in Sapormeina halted the buses with Manipur registration numbers and requested that they examine to see whether there was anybody from another group inside.
According to the police, nine persons, including a youngster, were detained in relation to the bus torching event.
