Reliance Industries Limited subsidiary io Platforms Limited (JPL) announced a partnership with SpaceX to provide broadband internet services to clients in India, including the most rural and remote areas of the nation, via Starlink, the top low Earth orbit satellite in the world. The deal is contingent upon SpaceX being granted permission to sell Starlink in India. On Tuesday, rival Bharti Airtel revealed a comparable agreement with Starlink, the company owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
According to a statement from JPL, the agreement allows Jio and SpaceX to investigate how Jio may enhance SpaceX’s direct sales to businesses and customers and how Starlink can expand Jio’s capabilities. “Starlink solutions will be made accessible by Jio via its online storefronts and retail locations.”
According to the statement, in order to provide dependable internet services throughout the nation, the parties will use Jio’s position as the biggest mobile operator in the world in terms of data traffic and Starlink’s position as the top operator of low Earth orbit satellite constellations.
