On Wednesday, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium in Barsapara, one of the three locations where the warm-up games, including the marquee match featuring India and England, will be held later this month, hosted a grand welcome for the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy, one of the most coveted prizes in the world of cricket.
At the auditorium of the 91 Yards Club on the grounds of the ACA Stadium, here, BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia, ACA president Taranga Gogoi, and ACA secretary Tridib Konwar officially unveiled the iconic silverware in the presence of current and former apex council members, current and former cricketers, and a host of cricket enthusiasts.
The ICC World Cup Trophy has visited 18 nations since it went to space, according to Saikia. “Until this point, no prize has traveled thus far in the sky. “We are incredibly honored and thrilled to have the trophy in Guwahati,” Saikia told the crowded audience.
The trophy was launched spectacularly, reaching a height of 1,20,000 feet before coming to rest in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the biggest cricket stadium in the world and the site of the ICC World Cup 2023 final on November 19.
The tour of the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy has been underway in India, the competition’s hosts, since June 27. It has visited places including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the USA, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy, France, and England. It has also been to the West Indies.
The major venue and the training facilities are ready to be utilised, Saikia said in regards to the preparations made by the ACA for the forthcoming ICC World Cup warm-up game to be played in Guwahati.
He said that the teams will begin practicing on September 28 at the Amingaon Cricket Ground and the Annex Ground of the ACA Stadium in Barsapara.
There will be a total of four games played in Guwahati, including the key encounter between India and England on September 30. Afghanistan and Bangladesh will also be competing in these games. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will square off on September 29 at the ACA Stadium.
The set ticket rates are 200 rupees (for students), 300, 500, 700, and 1,000 rupees.
The main round matches between England and New Zealand, the 2019 competition’s finals, are scheduled to start on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. On October 8 in Chennai, India will begin their campaign against Australia.
