On Buddha Jayanti, a four-day Buddha Festival is being organized at Deekshabhoomi by the Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Memorial Committee of Nagpur. The chairman of the committee, Bhadant Arya Nagarjuna Surei Sasai, initiated 100 children into Shramner. After various rituals, everyone took a pledge to follow the path shown by Gautam Buddha throughout their life. Parents of the children were also present on this occasion. In the courtyard of Deeksha Bhoomi, small children took out their hair and appeared along with their family members. After donning the chivar, they received Dassheel along with Trisharan from Bhadant Sasai. The children took initiation to follow Dassheel throughout their life. The naming of the children was also done during this time.
What is Shramner education
The children who take Shramner education complete their school education along with receiving this spiritual education. These followers study in the Mahavihara from class 4-12. They receive the guidance of Shramner from prominent Buddhist monks of Buddhamahavihara monasteries located in different parts of the country. After completing their studies here, the children of the followers go to the Buddhist Mahavihara located in Sri Lanka and Thailand for higher education of Buddhism.
According to the information, there are two departments in Buddhism. The first is a Buddhist monk and the second is a Buddhist worshipper. To become a Buddhist monk one has to take upasampada. No man becomes a Buddhist monk in a day. TTo become a Buddhist monk, he is told the rules set by the monk for the first three months by becoming a Shramner. After this he is declared a Buddhist monk. There is no separate provision for making worshippers. When a common man hears a discourse from a monk and expresses his desire to become a Buddhist worshipper, he has to accept the Trisaran and Panchsheel. After that he becomes a Buddhist worshipper.
