The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15.
The 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly will conclude its term on January 5, 2025, whereas the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will conclude its mandate on November 26.
The Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra,, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party, will face opposition from the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes the Congress, the NCP under Sharad Pawar, and the Shiv Sena (UBT) under Uddhav Thackeray.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which consists of the BJP, Janata Dal (United), and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), will face off against the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which is a member of the INDIA bloc.
According to persons with knowledge of the situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is anticipated to disclose its first candidate list for the Maharashtra elections, which includes more than 60 names, within the next two days after receiving approval from its central election committee (CEC).
On Monday, in New Delhi, BJP national president JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah met extensively with two state election-in-charges, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bhupender Yadav, as well as important figures from the party’s Maharashtra branch.
The party’s Maharashtra section has selected about 100 candidates, including current MLAs, for the CEC to consider.
In the meantime, the Congress party also called a conference to plan for the Maharashtra assembly elections, talking about important subjects including electoral guarantees and seat-sharing with partners in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
The party wants to avoid the blunders that cost it the most recent Haryana elections. Senior leader Balasaheb Thorat, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole, opposition leader in the Maharashtra assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, and former party chief Rahul Gandhi attended the meeting, which was hosted at the party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s home in the nation’s capital.
