On Monday, Air India Flight AI119, which was en route from Mumbai to New York, had to return after a possible security threat was discovered in midair.
At 10:25 am local time, the aircraft made a safe landing after following all the procedures. According to Air India, the airline is completely assisting the authorities and the aircraft is presently undergoing required security agency inspections.
Security agencies are required to inspect the aircraft, and Air India is providing the authorities with its complete cooperation. All passengers have been offered hotel accommodations, meals, and other support until the flight is rescheduled to fly at 0500 hours on March 11, 2025, according to a statement released by Air India.
Air India promised that its top concern is the safety of its crew and passengers.
“Our ground colleagues are working to minimize the disruption’s negative effects on our guests. The safety of the crew and passengers is Air India’s priority, as always,” the statement said.
The original itinerary was for a flight from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The trip usually takes about 15 hours.
The Boeing 777, which was carrying 303 passengers and 19 crew members, changed course over Azerbaijan and headed back to Mumbai. Bomb-detection protocols were conducted after the landing, although NDTV reported that the threat was ultimately determined to be a hoax.
