The Machilipatnam port, with an initial capacity of 35 million tons of cargo and an estimated cost of Rs 5,156 crore, was officially started on Monday by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The construction on the port, which is expected to be finished in two years, began with the Chief Minister unveiling a pylon and leading special prayers on the shore, according to a news release issued by the state government on Monday.
Reddy was cited in the announcement as stating, “As the cargo traffic increases gradually, the 4-berth deep water port’s capacity would be increased to 116 million tons.” He predicted that during the next 24 months, people will start to see big ships anchored at the port of Machilipatnam.

The port, which is linked to national highway number 216, would help Machilipatnam flourish like other major port towns like Mumbai and Chennai, the CM claims. However, he said that improved railroad link was necessary to improve access to the port.
Since Telangana and Chhattisgarh will also use this port, which is situated in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, it will spur growth in ancillary industries, which will create employment for thousands of people, according to Reddy. Machilipatnam will become the go-to place for trade and commerce as well as industrial growth.
